Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Can I send you my horse hair to use in my order?
A.  Almost all of my items are available to be made with your horse hair as well as that from my own stock.

Q.  Is there any extra cost if I send my own horse hair for my order?
A.  The cost for your horse hair items are the same, whether I use your horse hair or my own.

Q.  How much hair do you need for each item, and how long does it need to be?
A.  If you send your own hair in, the bunch needs to be at least 1/4” thick per item.  It needs to be at least 1 1/2 times as long as the finished product will be.  So for a 20” necklace, the hair needs to be at least 30” long, etc.

Q.  If I don't have enough horse hair for my whole item, can you add some of yours in to finish it up?  
A.  If you don’t have enough hair for your order, I can add some of my own, but will not do so without your permission first.

Q. What is the ordering process for sending my own horse hair?
1. Pick out what you would like to order.  Feel free to contact me with any questions or special requests you may have.
2. Submit your order.  There are several ways you can submit your order.  You may order directly through my online store, leaving any special instructions in the "comments" section during checkout.  If you're not comfortable with that ordering method, you may contact me directly to discuss your order or simply print out an order form and include that with your horse hair.
3. Send in your horse hair.  Please be sure to include your name (first and last) on and in the package with your horse hair, along with contact info.  Once you've ordered, you can send your horse hair to:

4. Receive your treasures back!  Once I get your horse hair, my turnaround time can take up to 4 weeks ~ although it's usually much faster.  Please let me know if you have a date you need your order back and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.

Q.  How long will it take for my order to be completed?
A.  Orders can take up to 4 weeks to be completed, from the time I get your horse hair, but usually are done much faster.  You will be notified if your order is expected to take longer or if there are delays. Please contact me if you need your order sooner.

Q.  Do I need to wash my hair before sending it in?
A.  While I don't require that hair is washed before I get it, it definitely makes my job easier when it is!  You do not need to wash the hair before you send it if you don’t want to, but please be sure that it’s brushed and banded together, or neatly braided.  Hair that is exceptionally knotted and/or dirty will be returned.  If you do wash the hair yourself, regular human shampoo and conditioner work nicely.

Q.  Can you send back any unused hair with my order?
A.  I am happy to return any unused hair with your order.  If you want your extra horse hair back, please be sure to send me a note with your order letting me know.

Q.  I plan on ordering something now and then something later.  Can you keep my hair in case I want something made in the future?
A.  Please contact me if you want me to hold your horse hair for future orders.  I can only hold horse hair for a limited (agreed upon) time, at which point you will be asked to pay for postage to return it to you if you are still not ready to order.  If you do not respond, provide return postage, aren't ready to order, or don't want the horse hair back, it will then be used for other orders as needed.

Q.  I only have mane hair.  Can you still use it?
Mane hair is much harder to work with than tail hair, due to the difference in texture.  If tail hair is available, I strongly prefer using that.  Otherwise, I will do my best with what you have, but please note that there are some cases where I may not be able to use mane hair for what you want to have made.  If this is the case, I will contact you to discuss your options.

Please note that there are a nearly endless options of color combinations for the horse hair, as well as charms, pendants, accents, etc.  I'm unable to list every possibility, so please feel free to request exactly what you would like.  I want every order to be perfect, so I encourage you to customize each piece to fit your tastes exactly.

If you have a special charm or pendant that you'd like me to use, I'm happy to do that for you.
